The Design Brief

Many people treat the brief as a formality. Something to get through so the real work can start.  

 

The research says otherwise. Various groups have spent decades studying what separates projects that land on budget from ones that don't, and the finding is consistent: the more completely a project is defined before design begins, the better it performs on cost, on programme, and on the number of changes required along the way.

 

It's one of the few things in construction with a clear, repeatable link to outcome.
